It was the middle of the night, and Wyheree was awake. She sat on the window seat in the stateroom of the Sea Wolf, wrapped in one of the colorful quilts from the bed, silver eyes flickering first out the window, then back to the large bed, where Captain Black lay sleeping.

Wyheree smiled as she watched James sleep, the sea air blowing through her hair. The past week or so had proven be one of the roughest since returning to RhyDin - a huge battle in the alley in defense of Skyler and Jewell, a hunter striking innocents in the Hall, another fight in the alley - and James had been there for her after each and every awful event. Her silver eyes misted - he did not flinch from her when she told him of her darker magics, he had cleaned her up and made her feel safe after the first battle in the alley, and he stayed by her side after she told him about her family - including the heritage of her son Aerynn.

James stirred then, his arm reaching across the bed in his sleep. Wyheree turned her full attention to the pirate in the bed they now shared. Of all the good things that had happened recently - Skyler's sheer happiness with Jewell's return, reconciling her differences with Dakota (the second alley fight had been to help him defend a friend against the same beings who attacked Jewell), Brian and Charlotte's news about the baby they were expecting, and their plans for a Boarding House/Japanese Bath House/Beer Garden (Wyheree had all sorts of ideas for what that might be), the most wonderful happening was being here on board the Sea Wolf, in the arms of her handsome pirate captain.

The time spent on the Sea Wolf had been beneficial to Wyheree in other ways - for the sea air was an excellent restorative for her ice magic. She felt stronger in her element, even attempting to phase short distances with some success (though she feared she frightened one of the crew by appearing out of nowhere on the bow). Feeling sleepy, Wyheree rose from the window seat, and padded barefoot over to the bed, and slipped under the quilts, her silver eyes closing as she listened to James breathe beside her.

It was the middle of the night, and everyone aboard the Sea Wolf was sleep - everyone, that is, except Wyheree. She was curled up on her favorite seat under the windows in the stateroom, wrapped in a colorful quilt from the large bed where James lay sleeping, her silver eyes gazing out the window as the sea breeze stirred her icy hair.

Wyheree gave a little sigh. After her first battle with the magical being in the alley, James told her she would be safer fighting the King's Navy - and she was beginning to agree with him. The past week or so had been rife with tension and conflict, and most of it (save for assisting Brian with his bodyguard work - that being a completely different story) seemed to center around Natalia.

Her eyes glittered coldly as she mulled over the events: Natalia wished a private moment with Jewell on the porch, and afterwards Jewell had re-entered the Inn in tears and fled up to her room - not even speaking to Skyler as he pleaded for answers. Natalia wished a private moment with Charlotte in the kitchen, and that managed to attract the wrath of Lucy.

What made Wyheree the most angry was when Natalia interrupted a private moment of pain and grief - Charlotte was speaking with her and Rosie, emotions unchecked, the fresh wounds to her heart raw. The Hunter had slunk into the Hall, placing herself within the conversation, purring her nauseating pet names at Charlotte, then using some sort of power to wile Charlotte into an embrace. Wyheree felt the magic - for want of a better word - and was unimpressed with it, and with Natalia, and had demanded she let Charlotte go. Natalia complied with a sneer of a smile for Wyheree, which only served to goad her temper.

Wyheree was already aware that Natalia had gained some resistance to her ice magic - the cold, cutting winds she had used to express her displeasure of Natalia's treatment of Jewell had been ineffective. So, Wyheree was forced into a waiting game - for she was not willing to unleash larger magic for a seemingly small issue.

The final straw came when Charlotte - whether still under the influence of Natalia, or not - chose the Hunter's company over her own. Shocked into silence, Wyheree swept back into the Inn, right up to Des - who was tending bar - and requested a stronger than usual drink. As Des poured out the drink, Wyheree rested her hands on one of the chairs by the bar, and shoved ice all through it - causing it to explode into little shards and pieces. When asked by Des, Icer, and Rosie what was wrong, Wyheree found she could not express the cause of her rage.

As Wyheree stared out along the empty boardwalk, she knew that the source of her anger - the source of so many difficulties plaguing her friends - was Natalia. The only question now, was what to do about it.

Wyheree stretched, feeling sleepy at last. The quilt slipped from her shoulders, revealing a simple silver shift, and she stood up - blushing palest pink as she picked up her new black breeches from the floor, folding them neatly, and draped them over a chair. James had given her a proper pirate's outfit - complete with black hat (which she found by the door), black knee-length boots (these she retrieved from near the map table), royal blue jacket with silver braid on the cuffs and lapels (this was plucked from the foot of the bed and folded with the breeches), and a cream colored blouse (it took a while, but she finally found it by the window seat). James had said she was the most proper pirate he had ever laid eyes on - after helping her slide the boots over her legs (she had never worn anything like them before). He had surprised her again with a map of Barrett's Bay, giving her a hint of their upcoming adventure as she traced the route they would sail. That evening, James had taken Wyheree out to a fine restaurant, and she loved the freedom of movement the breeeches and jacket had given her as they walked about town together, and she loved the way James looked at her all throughout their meal. Afterwards, alone in their stateroom, James and Wyheree had fallen into each other's arms, and celebreated their love for each other until the stars shone brightly in the night sky.

As Wyheree slipped under the quilts, she brushed her lips against her pirate's cheek, and snuggled onto the most comfortable pillow on the bed, her silver eyes closing as she was lulled to sleep by the steady rhythm of his breathing.

Wyheree stirred in her sleep, silver eyes fluttering open. The night sky was slowly lightening to gray, and the stars were beginning to fade - and soon, the Sea Wolf would be sailing again, bound for Barrett's Bay. With a nuzzle and a kiss for James's shoulder, she rose from their bed - wrapped in one of the many quilts, and curled up on her favorite seat under the stateroom windows. Wyheree was very excited to be sailing with her Captain - she was feeling the thrill of the adventure almost as strongly as the crew, and she smiled as she gazed out at the water.

Last night, James had stopped by the Inn for one last drink, and they had immediately fallen into each others arms - they missed each other, even though they had been apart for only the day. When they finally broke their kiss, Wyheree used her icy tendrils to snag them rum and glasses, and after a drink, James declared it was time for Wyh to learn to dance!

Wyheree took his hands as he showed her - her stomach full of butterflies - and together, they danced all about the Inn - James singing as he lead her through the steps:

"My boat's by the tower, and my bark's on the bay, and both must be gone at the dawn of the day. The moon's in her shroud, and to light thee afar On the deck of the daring's a lovelighted star. So wake, lady wake, I am waiting for thee, Oh, this night or never my bride thou shalt be, So wake, lady wake, I am waiting for thee, Oh, this night or never my bride thou shalt be."

"So forgive me my rough mood unaccustomed to sue; I woo not, perhaps, as your landlubbers do. My voice is attuned to the sound of the gun That startles the deep when the combat's begun. So wake, lady wake, I am waiting for thee, Oh, this night or never my bride thou shalt be, So wake, lady wake, I am waiting for thee,Oh, this night or never my bride thou shalt be."

"A hundred shall serve - the best of the brave, And the chief of a thousand shall kneel as thy slave, And thou shalt reign queen, and thy empire shall last Till the black flag by inches, is torn from the mast. So wake, lady wake, I am waiting for thee, Oh, this night or never my bride thou shalt be, So wake, lady wake, I am waiting for thee, Oh, this night or never my bride thou shalt be."

Wyheree laughed as James spun her about - she had never known dancing could be this easy, and when his song ended, they both leaned on the bar, still laughing. He praised her dancing, then pulled her into a hug:

"Ye are an amazin' woman, Wyh...I'm sure any man would love t' marry you! I mean.... I think I be needed more rum!"

Wyheree blushed palest pink, still feeling the effects of the dance and the magic in his words. "Where did we leave our mugs?" James looked around and found them still on the bartop. "Here they be!" - and he refilled both, and gave Wyheree hers. She took a careful sip - the strong drink working very quickly, and she reached up to give James a rum-flavored kiss, which he deepened, running his fingers through her hair..

Wyheree reached up to finger the braid James had worked in her hair - he had gently threaded blue and silver beads along its length (to match her jacket), so they caught the light and sparkled as she moved. She blushed again as she remembered the dancing, and their sweet lovemaking after they returned to the Sea Wolf. Still smiling, she rose from her seat, and began to prepare for the day - and the Grand Adventure to come.
