Here you'll find information on Rookery Row and many of the locations or landmarks within. Since it is ever changing, the information may change at random too, but that said please feel free to share in this setting with us. Just a few ground rules, if you don't mind.

1. For the most part, the Row itself is accessible to most anyone brave enough to take the leap. There are locations that will be listed within this thread that are considered private or inaccessible, so out of respect for their creators, please do not use them without permission. Unsure of whose setting it is or if it is usable? Feel free to contact the moderators (Cassie, Sai, Shepard, Chris), or the author of the post. We don't bite (Unless you poke Shep, I can't guarantee he won't bite).

2. Again, out of respect for the creators, please do not destroy or otherwise alter the established settings without express permission.

3. Here's that respect thing again, but please be nice to the NPCs (No killing, maiming, injuring the established/named/listed NPCs that belong to others). We'll have a catalog of them up soon (hopefully). Get permission if you're of a mind to do so. Some of them are real jerks (Looking at you Atticus), but they're our squishy cinnamon rolls and deserve to be protected.

4. That's it really. Be respectful of your fellow players and their creations, have fun, drop any questions with us if you've got them.

Enjoy!

The Goblin Market

Straddling the edge between here and not, the Goblin Market serves as one of several entrances to Rookery Row from the rest of Rhy’Din City. Half hidden from prying eyes, the business transactions that occur within the market are seldom legitimate and therein one can find any number of illicit activities and wares. Patronized by humans and non-humans alike, the supernatural bazaar is nothing short of bizarre. A veritable mishmash of mythological and fantastical, it contains hundreds of booths and shoppes for the strange and fantastic beings of the city and beyond. If you need it, the Goblin Market has it, from the mundane like clothing and food to the less savory like weaponry and live slaves and everything in between. Almost always busy, the roads are often filled with pedestrian traffic, making the use of vehicles or bikes impractical and undesirable.

Rookery Row

One of the city’s many autonomous neighborhoods, Rookery Row’s reputation is not one of great renowned. It is a dog eat dog microcosm of abject poverty and a continuous struggle for control. Of those who fight to rule the Row and its people, none are so brazen nor feared as the one they call The Piper. Few have seen the man’s face but many have felt his wrath. An exact headcount of the population has never been done but it is estimated that as few as 8-900 or as many as 5-6000 live within Rookery Row’s shifting and changing boundaries. Tucked somewhere on the line of Dockside and Old Temple, unless you know how to get there, it’s unlikely that one would simply stumble across it. Some believe it is contained within its own pocket realm which allows the Row to grow and change as needed. This theory is supported by the ease with which the Row can be shut away from the city at large to either protect those within from threats beyond or to keep them from leaving should the Piper wish them not to. Frequented by armed thugs, slavers, and criminals alike, there are few “safe” spots within Rookery Row and as such, it’s not recommended to venture out unaccompanied into the Row.

The Glass Menagerie

Owned by the Piper but ran by a man named Oberis Frostpane, the Glass Menagerie is one of several social centers within the Row. Often bustling no matter the hour, it’s a one stop shop for a bite and a drink, some company and a room for the evening, or for information if one knows where to listen or at least how to pay the right people to talk.

Underbridge Cottage

Long before one ever reaches the storied house upon the hill, they must pass through the outlying woods that ring the property. Set deep within at the end of a stone and dirt path is the caretaker's cottage. Just a one and a half story bungalow, Underbridge Cottage pales in comparison to its Manor counterpart in nearly every aspect save coziness. Over the past year it has grown and changed, experiencing its own renaissance of sorts thanks to the arrival of an occupant other than the perennial caretaker Tralle. Where the Manor is dead and desolate, the Cottage is alive with budding shrubbery and the beginnings of an amateur's herb garden. A new addition was added just before winter to give the cottage a full sized bedroom. Before that, it consisted of a kitchen and living room on the ground level, as well as a small bed nook and a bathroom. Above, additional sleeping quarters are arranged in the open air loft beneath the slanted pitch of the high ceiling.

During colder months, intermittent streams of grey-white smoke drift from a smokestack atop the house, remnants of a small but efficient hearth within. Above the mantle, a simple secondhand flat screen television serves as a modern accent amidst much of the older decor. Much of the furniture is secondhand as well; used, comfortable, a little drab but still more than functional. As spring settles on the Underbridge estate, the first buds on sapling cherry and apple trees as well as newly planted lilac bushes offer a fragrant touch despite the lingering foulness of Rookery Row just beyond the stone walls. All in all, it's modest and comfortable, nigh perfect for the young couple that calls it home.

Underbridge Manor

Once upon a time Underbridge Manor had been majestic, a true beauty to behold until it was forgotten by the rough and tumble of Rookery Row. Behind high walls topped with wrought iron, the crumbling mansion sits derelict and hidden from common view. From the front iron gate, a winding stone path pushes through a thicket of trees and up a sloping hill upon which the manor sits. The grounds, long since overrun by tall, dead grass, were once the envy of all who beheld them. Now, only a fraction of the once legendary rose garden remains, a tenacious reminder that even if the world has forgotten Underbridge Manor, the manor itself lives on.

When we say "lives", we truly mean it lives, and those brave enough to enter should take care to not to get too touchy with the priceless array of antiques and furniture within, lest the collection touch back. For all intents and purposes, it appears to have been abandoned long, long ago, with no discernible sign of sentient life within save for the occasional flicker of passing candlelight in the windows, often written off as a trick of the moons. These aren't the only tricks the Manor plays on the unsuspecting (and even the suspecting!), and no two visits will ever be identical. The decor and furniture differs, if only just barely, depending upon the day, month, season, or even time of day. The changes are subtle though, easy to write off and difficult to nail down even for the most astute observers. Underbridge Manor's contents run the gamut from old to new with modern amenities set alongside artifacts aged nearly five centuries. Never the less, the aura of dilapidation remains regardless of the Manor's mood and one thing is constant; the ever present feeling that you're being watched.

Wendenheim’s Books

Crammed to the brim with floor to ceiling shelves and stacks upon stacks of books, Wendenheim’s is tucked into an aging two story stone building just off the Row’s main market. Owned by the eponymous Wilbur Wendenheim, the first floor is all shop space while the second is the private residence of Wendenheim himself. Musty “old book smell” permeates the air, cut occasionally by the smell of cloves that wafts in through the open back door on the old man’s smoke breaks. The narrow aisles are broken up by the occasional armchair, of which one is almost always taken up by the resident tomcat, creatively named “Tom”. A sign beside the front door boldly proclaims “NO LOITERING” but seldom is it enforced, especially if he finds a patron with book in hand. The love of reading trumps a need for business and as such, Wendenheim’s is hardly the most profitable shop on the block. The selection runs the gamut from classics to contemporary to self help to the occult and often times, if you can’t find what you’re looking for, Wendenheim has a particular knack for being able to get it in within a few days.

Venalia & Saieniel's Loft at Row's Edge

The insidious tendrils of Rookery Row's influence have a way of stretching outwards from the Row's core in spidery offshoots of infectious desolation. Some though, some are examples of just how the Piper takes care of his own and on one such lane, aptly named Row's Edge for it's outlying location, is home to a den of hedonistic opulence. The multistory apartment serves as the primary home of Venalia Dawnblade and Saieniel Dúeth. The Mage Princess and the Blade Singer, by virtue of the latter's association with the Piper's Rag Man, have come to find themselves quite comfortable at the edge of the Row, and as such have appointed a most elegant abode.

Heavily warded, it is home to priceless art and tomes, ancient scrolls and other endless treasures. For those who dare try to get past the wards, they are met by a dragonne by the name of Akane, who is more than happy to introduce them to his razor sharp teeth or claws.
