27 July 2013

Saturday was bright and clear; a wedding gift to the couple from the bride's grandfather, the Lord of the Sky. He, along with several others from the Halls of Olympus, had planned to be among the congregation to bear witness to the union. For most of her life, they had watched from a distance. A few had popped in for the rehearsal dinner on Friday evening. It was hard to miss the drunken antics of Dionysus. Not even Atropos, who had long sought the affections of Rhiannon's birth father, was denied admittance to the joyous affair.

In the late afternoon, there was fussing and carrying on as the bride prepared for her grand entrance. It might have been the one day in her life that she didn't mind the feminine trappings and elegance of silk, lace, and more jewelry than she normally wore. Things had been arranged so that the bridal carriage would arrive after the procession had started. This would afford some time for Tass, who Rhiannon claimed as her father, to offer any last minute words of advice.

Hatten Point's attractions had started as Aja Bird's vision of building a zoo. It caught on like wildfire with her friends and family, who offered their own ideas, supplies, and hands to help make the Captain's dream a reality. With Aja's blessing, the Arboretum and its grounds would officially be opened with Rhiannon and Eregor's wedding. Eregor had worked hard on the project making it into a place to enjoy, learn at, and, perhaps, to dream in. In preparation for the wedding, the bridges across the stream had been decorated with sprays of roses, lilacs, and baby's breath and tied with lilac and lavender ribbons. At the end of the Arboretum driveway, guests were directed through a rose covered archway to one of the small garden areas. Chairs had been set out in rows on either side of a center aisle. Row ends were marked with flowers created with white pearl strands and translucent lilac ribbons. The first two rows on either side were reserved and marked with the ribbons and dark purple roses. At the far end of the aisle was a second archway covered in white and purple lilacs, this was where vows would be exchanged.

Horse drawn carriages and limousines arrived at the arboretum. The carriages delivered the guests then returned to bring the bridal party. Limousines remained on site to take people back to their rooms at the resort or back to the docks to take the ships back to Rhydin City.

As was sometimes the custom at weddings, guests were offered a program of sorts to keep track of who was who and what was what. The names of the bride’s attendants, groomsmen, and musicians along other tidbits were listed. At the suggestion of her bridesmaid, Katt, Rhiannon had opted for bubbles to be given out instead of rice for the end of the wedding.

The programs had been made to match the invitations.

Included were:
The names of the bridal party,
The names of the musicians and singers.
Titles of the songs being played.

The translations for the Irish used during the ceremony:

Ring Blessing:

"Tá na fáinní a mharcáil mé mar shiombail de a gcuid grá do gach eile. Iad siúd a chaitheamh orthu mé ag beannaigh le saol fada, sonas, agus grá."

"The rings I mark as a symbol of their love for each other. Those who wear I bless them with long life, happiness, and love."

Closing Blessing:
"Go raibh Dia dul in éineacht leat agus tú beannaigh. Is féidir leat a fheiceáil do leanaí's páistí. Go raibh tú daibhir i mí áidh agus saibhir i mbeannachtaí. Bealtaine Tá a fhios raibh ach áthas agat ón lá seo amach."

"May God accompany you and bless you. May you see your children's children. May you be poor in misfortune and rich in blessings. May you know nothing but happiness from this day forward."

"Bealtaine áthas agus síocháin nacht tú araon, latch sásamh do doras, agus sonas a bheith in éineacht leat anois. Agus Dia duit evermore. Maire tú do shaol le muinín, agus gean ar feadh an tsaoil a chothú. Bealtaine do bhrionglóid a thagann fíor ar feadh an tsaoil ar do shon, bogadh riamh treo sin."

"May joy and peace surround you both, contentment latch your door, and happiness be with you now. And God bless you evermore. May you live your life with trust, and lifelong affection sustain. May your dream come true of a lifetime for you, move ever that direction."

((Please note that neither I nor Elaine's player, who prepared the blessing, are native Irish speakers. Anyone that has a working knowledge of the Irish language is welcome to PM me with a better translation. ))

Few things made themselves known better than an over-excited child dragging her parents toward the beautifully created space where soon one man and one woman would become husband and wife. Dragged along by one hand, Piper was laughing at the sight of Lyneth straining to get a good view of everything around her. "Lynnie, just calm down," she tried to urge her daughter, relinquishing her hold to let Des take charge of the little half-Fae.

"But it's so excitin'!" the tiny girl exclaimed cheerfully. Her momentum as she was released from her mother's grip swung her around until she thumped face first into Des, stepping back with a giggle. Imperious arms rose expectantly as she looked up at her father. "Up."

Though in truth, he wasn't her father - at least, not by blood - and the adoption papers had yet to be formally filed, Desmond had embraced the role of fatherhood with the same exuberance with which Lyneth embraced life. He loved his new life with his little family, and as he swept the little bundle of energy that was Lyneth up into his arms, his whole face lit up with happiness. So long as he was there, she'd be sure to have the best seat in the house.

"Now hold still, you little terror." Piper advanced on her fiance and daughter with a grin. "Don't you want to wear the pretty flowers you've been given?"

Lyneth tore her gaze from her curious inspection of the surroundings and other guests to settle her eyes onto the little headband in her mother's hands. It was lovely - an arrangement of eggplant delphiniums, grape-purple violets, ivory wildflowers, and bits of green foliage set on a delicate, purple satin covered headband. The little girl's eyes glowed happily. "Oooh, yes, please!" She held still as Piper settled the pretty piece onto her head, her smile growing to a happy beam of delight now she matched their surroundings. "Does I look pretty?"

"Do you look pretty," Des corrected, ever patient, amusement flickering in his bright blue eyes. "And yes, you do. My girls are the prettiest girls in all of Rhy'Din!" he said, as he gave Lyneth's button nose an affectionate tweak.

That comment, while innocent enough, elicited a snort from a new arrival, and Des turned to find a slightly familiar-looking blond man in a black suit and pink shirt arriving with a pretty brunette he remembered from various family gatherings that had taken place at Maple Grove. Olivia and Johnny Storm - his brother Jon's personal assistant and her wise-cracking superhero husband.

"Don't you know it's rude to say that at a wedding? The bride is always the prettiest!" Johnny pointed out with a teasing grin. As far as he was concerned, Liv was by far the prettiest, but the bride had yet to make an appearance. It was no big secret that Johnny was particularly fond of Rhiannon, who had taken to him almost like he was a long-lost brother.

"Olivia, I didn't know you married the wedding police!" Des remarked with a smirk, taking Johnny in stride. Nothing was going to ruin his mood, not even the antics of one Human Torch.

Liv laughed softly at the interaction between the men and the uniqueness that was Lyneth, her gaze meeting Piper's. She hadn't been expecting to see anyone she knew apart from the bride and groom, and it was a relief and a pleasant surprise to find that Des, Piper, and Lyneth had been invited as well. "It's a beautiful day to be married, isn't it?"

Lyneth wrinkled her nose at Johnny, peering closer. "Why's you wearin' pink? Girls wear pink."

"Shh, you, sometimes men wear pink," Piper corrected her, chuckling as she ushered Des down the aisle to find a seat.

Des couldn't help but smirk at Lyneth's comment regarding Johnny's color scheme, and muttered under his breath, just loud enough so that the Torch could hear him, "I wouldn't be caught dead wearing pink."

Johnny furrowed his brows a moment at the little half-Fae girl, unsure just what to make of her. He was usually pretty good with kids, and he and Liv were hoping for some of their own someday, but there was no rush. "It goes good with my eyes," he quipped back at them both, batting his lashes playfully at Lyneth, just one big kid himself.

Liv wrapped her arm through Johnny's, unable to quite wipe the smile from her face as she looked around. "Fairytale wedding, isn't it?" she murmured softly, touching her cheek to his shoulder. They hadn't exactly had a fairytale themselves, but she wouldn't have changed what they had had for the world. "I hope they're as happy together as I am with you."

Johnny beamed a smile back at Liv, who had somehow managed to distract him before he could respond to Desmond's remark. He wasn't going to let anything spoil his good mood either. He tucked Liv's arm into the crook of his elbow to lead them to their seats, wherever those were. As far as he was concerned, every day was a fairytale, so long as he was with his half of the Broderick twins. "If they're even half as happy as we are, they'll be fine."

She smiled up at him, hugging close to his arm as they followed Des, Piper, and Lyneth toward the bride's side of the aisle, drawing him down into a seat behind that merry little family. Half as happy or ten times more so, this wedding had felt like it was a long time coming, and they were all determined to enjoy it.

Marissa felt a little ridiculous in the dress that had been picked out for her. She'd needed help getting into the dress, and now that it was on, she felt a bit silly, but her mother and sisters had assured her she looked lovely and that the gown complemented her in every way. It was lovely, to be sure, but far more elaborate than anything she'd normally choose for herself.

One of her selves was reminded of a formal gathering in another time and place, where a handsome young man had attempted to kiss her, and she had fled in terror. She was confident that wouldn't happen today. She'd make sure of it.

The gown itself was lovely, made of cream-colored velvet with black lace trim and beaded fringe. A pendant hung from her neck depicting a white unicorn against a full moon - the symbol of purity and a familiar emblem associated with her adoptive mother's house. Though she was not wearing purple as were those in the wedding party, a trio of lilac roses, which distinguished her as belonging to the bride's family, held her long chestnut hair back from her face on one side.

She made her way quietly toward the gathering and found a seat unobtrusively among the bride's family, a slightly shy smile offered to those already there. She folded her hands in her lap demurely and waited for the ceremony to begin, both excited for her sister and a little nervous of the crowd.

Though she was unacquainted with any but those who were family, she recognized a few familiar faces. Despite her nervousness, she was overjoyed for her sister and hoped Rhiannon would find lifelong happiness with her chosen mate.

Victor and Shy alighted from one of the carriages and moved through the rose-covered archway towards the small garden area where the wedding will take place. While he was in a smart black suit and tie, Shy chose to wear an enchanting strapless, floral-embroidered silk organza gown styled with a pair of coral-coloured heels which highlight the blossoms of the elegantly designed dress.

"This place is fantastic, and the smell is wonderful." He smiled at Shy as they walked arm in arm gracefully towards the chairs. He said a soft thank you when they were handed a program and a bottle of bubbles.

She nodded in agreement. "Ja. 'Tis a beautiful garden, for sure. And I adore lilacs as you know, Mister Grynryd. Their fragrance is simply marvelous." A dimpled smile accompanied a wave of greeting for those who arrived ahead of them. "E'erybody looks so grand. The males are quite dashing in their suits, and the females are very lovely in their gowns ... do you agree?" Lightest of blues settled upon the handsome Garou at her side. "Hva er det?" The question asked as she pointed at the container.

He gave a nod, both to Shy and to the other guests. "Everyone is looking their best today. It should be an event to remember." He held up the small bottle of fluid to show Shy. "This is a bottle with which to blow bubbles at the happy couple after the ceremony."

"Oh. I see." It is the first time she has heard of such a thing. "Na I am tenkning we should sitte on the Bride's side of the aisle." She indicated the left side. "Do you want to be closer to the front, or more in the middle?"

"I think that, being taller than most, we should sit slightly further back to not block anyone else's view of the ceremony."

"Very well, mitt elskling, but I claim the end chair. I want a clear view of each person in the bridal party as they walk down the aisle."

"In that case, I had better sit down first." After sliding the bottle into his pocket, he gestured with his free hand towards one of the rows of chairs. "Here, my heart?"

"Ja. This is fint, Kjæreste."

He smiled a little wider at his lady, then took a seat next to the one on the end where Shy requested to sit.

She eased down onto the chair seat, and gently smoothed out the skirt of her gown. A small lean was taken toward Victor to whisper, "I am feeling a bit excited. 'Tis long since I have attended a wedding." With her hand slipped into his she fell silent to listen to the wonderful music and singing.

He gave Shy's hand a squeeze as he settled back to enjoy the occasion. "I would like to hear about that sometime," he whispered before going quiet himself.

The scarred Watchwoman gracefully alighted from the carriage that fetched her to the wedding site. Measured strides were matched to allow the periwinkle blue silk of her long gown to flow like water about her while she strode to the seating area. Raven haired head, long tresses held back on the sides with periwinkle blossoms, dipped in turn to those whom she recognized in the crowd. A chair was gracefully claimed on the bride’s side, and white lace gloved hands rested in her lap, along with the program.

Rachael remembered, with a brief wistful expression on her scarred features, the presence of the soon to be joined in matrimony couple at her own wedding over a year ago. A silent prayer was made that Rhiannon and Eregor would be together and contently happy for all of their days.

As is generally the case with families with kids, the Falconne clan was running farther behind than they had first intended. Antonio smiled at Anya and tousled his oldest's hair. "At least they held the ferry for us - it would have been a terribly long walk off an incredibly short pier, and I'm not swimming as well as I used to."

Maranya softly laughed. "Dearest, you can do anything that you set your mind to. But I agree, as dressed up as we are, it would have been a shame to arrive looking like drowned rats."

The rocking of the carriage had, unfortunately, made the boys even more excited, rather than calming them down as Antonio had hoped. He looked over at Anya. "Do you think we should break out their...." He spelled the word B-E-A-R-S. "...before certain people get any more enthused?"

"That may be wise. We don't want them shrieking through the ceremony," she agreed, and produced a pair of stuffed bears that had various means of teaching skills such as tying bows and buttoning buttons on them. The bears were also soft enough for the twins to cuddle with, should they get tired later.

Ayden and Andrew immediately grabbed for their bears, and were engrossed in fiddling with the buttons and bows.

With a grin on his face, he handed Anya down to the footman. Following behind, he waited, and caught both boys as they jumped down into his arms. "Careful fellas - you're going to wrinkle your new ties," he said with a wink to Anya.

"And after all the fuss they made about me tying them, too. You both look as handsome as your Papa, and he didn’t put up any fuss in wearing a tie, either."

After he put the boys down, he straightened his vest, twitched his cuffs, and offered Anya a quick kiss. "Looks like things are getting ready - shall we take our seats?"

Maranya returned the quick kiss to Antonio and dropped a quick kiss to the tops of their sons' heads. "Da, we should. Bride's side, I believe."

The twins toddled ahead, stuffed bears waving in the air.

"At least it's not their practice swords," Maranya fondly laughed as she and Antonio finally got the boys settled in with them in their seats.

Their carriage came to a stop as the door opened, allowing Brian to take his exit. Turning, as he stepped to the ground, a hand was offered towards the door with a warm smile to those inside.

“I look silly! We both do, Daddy!”

“Speak for yourself, Chowder-head.”

“Didja hear what Leyah called me, Daddy?”

Brian shook his head softly, “I heard her Thressa, and Leyah please don't call your sister a---”

The sound of a throat clearing with authority from within the carriage stopped the exchange between father and daughters dead in its tracks, as Brian chuckled softly.

“That's our signal girls... Mother has spoken, and you know what that means.”

“Best behavior ever,” said the duo in unison.

“That's about the gist of it, so let's get you all out here and find our places.”

First came Aleyah, and then Nathressa. Each of the twins fiddling with the waist brooch of their elegant short chiffon dresses, as they awaited their mother who soon followed.

Taking Jenai's hand, Brian led her down the steps of the carriage offering a soft kiss to said hand, as Jenai settled on the ground with her family. A loving smile returned, as her hand was released.

Lilac eyes settled upon the twins, as Jenai gave them a quick once over. In reaction the girls quickly righted themselves, standing as ladies indeed with their hands clasped before themselves, and such a smile that each of them had for their mother and father.

A hand lifted as Brian the breast of his jacket a bit, feeling a bit out of sorts without a side arm of any kind. He knew there was no need for one at all on this most incredible of days and welcomed that fact deeply down inside as his eyes landed upon his wife, which cause a breath or two to be stolen.

Normally it didn't take much for that to happen when it came to Brian, but seeing Jenai as she was seemed to make it a rather constant affair.

Tresses of flame settled along her tanned shoulders, the full length silken jeweled evening dress of lavender with matching heels, and a lovely brooch nestled within their hair of hers.

Indeed Jenai was the centerpiece of the Ravenlock family this evening.

Her lilacs met his blue, “See something you like, Mister Ravenlock?”

“Always, m'heart. But I dare say this isn't the time to expand on that, because if I do we may not get seats and will miss out on the ceremony, and that simply will not do.”

“Then you owe me time to expand on that,” said Jenai as she slid her arm through Brian's.

“Always,” answered Brian as the family headed towards the rose covered archway.

“This is amazing,” said Brian as the family entered the garden. The twins 'ooohing and aahing' as their eyes wandered the expanse of the area with such a wonder. “It sure is baby, it's so comforting so--- out of a book. It's something so special. Perfect for the bride and groom,” replied Jenai.

Polite nods were offered to the other guests, as the Ravenlock family took their seats.

At the back of the seats on the groom’s side, a spherical creature floated, its many blue eyes looking here and there upon their stalks. The beholder, Tenball, bore an infectious grin despite the hints of sharp teeth, and he bobbed up and down in anticipation. An old friend of the groom, he had watched the couple grow into a life together, and knew that they were the proverbial match made in heaven. Joyful laughter bubbled up from within him, and he started to apologize for disturbing those nearby, but they simply smiled and waved it off. This was a day for joy, after all.

Psly chuckled as he stepped down to the ground from the elevated carriage level. “We’re not gonna be late, love. You can stop apologizing.” He turned to face the open portal once more, extending a hand to connect with the smaller counterpart coming into view. The man was slicked and shiny, decked from head to toe in formal kilted panoply. The dark sporran rested on blackwatch tartan, its precious contents within hoarded by an embroidered silvered dragon.

“I’m sorry,” his redheaded companion murmured with a sheepish grin and pink tinge of cheeks as she came into view, claiming the offered hand with her own to use in aid to disembark from the provided transport. “My hair sucks.” He sighed softly as he drew her forward and more into sight. No doubt he’d heard some variation of his wife’s complaint a few dozen times for the length of the ride’s duration.

The offensive element of her attire was elegantly contained, silver- and red- strands mingled in a sleek chignon at the nape of her neck and dotted by tiny diamond dragons. Her forest green gown was composed of taffeta, strapless and curving around her body like a second skin until it flared at knee-height, blossoming out as an upside-down flower kissing her feet. A simple blackwatch sash covered the right shoulder, crossing her body and clasped at her left hip in claws of a dragon sister to her husband’s sporran-guardian.

“Your hair’s fine,” he murmured patiently, his other hand reaching out toward her waist to ease her down the carriage steps while in high silver heels. “But if you don’t stop talking, we will be late.” His words took on a teasingly chiding tone and sent Jaycy’s eyes rolling. “Sorry,” she repeated … but with much less contrition.

He chuckled, pulling the short woman in for a kiss before withdrawing enough to lead her, hand on waist, toward the ceremony space. “It’s lovely,” she breathed as they passed the rose-covered archway, green-gold eyes alit with pleasure at the lilac and lavender ribbons amongst the flowers and baby’s breath. He squeezed her side in agreement, sneaking a glance down before murring his agreement. They paused just within the area briefly, nodding polite hellos toward the other invited guests. “They did well,” he finally verbalized. “Shall we find a seat?”

“Mmm, please.” She shifted an inch closer, nestling more into his side and hold almost as if shy around those gathered already. He took to forward movement once more, the redhead close at his left, and they descended on seats nearer the rear of the ceremony space. “Is this alright?” he queried, nodding at her smiling agreement. They settled quietly and continued to peer around, knowing the ceremony would soon commence.

Shadow arrived with a minimum of fuss - he had no date or significant other, but he did have his new kitten Rumpelstiltskin perched at his shoulder. The creature had grown large and fey in its time in the Citadel, a huge grey Manx breed with striking violet eyes, but it seemed to have no trouble keeping its place atop the elf’s slender shoulder.

The ArchMage was dressed in his best suit, a black Armani woven with silver thread to make the entire outfit shimmer as he strode. A gentleman’s half-cape, the night-black cloth replete with a silvery weave similar to the suit’s, draped over his left shoulder and arm. And of course, he had the ArCane with him, tapping the floor with it as he took a seat near the back, on the bride’s side. He offered smiles and nods to those he knew, or any who chanced to look in his direction.

Aja smiled watching the ArchMage arrive at the wedding site. She took a moment to view his dashing outfit, then looked down to her own. The blue dress was a product of yet another one of Sivanna’s shopping sprees. Along with the heels to match, the jewels however, were Aja’s, things she had collected over the years, but rarely had occasion to wear them. She found moments to pull them from the safe, at times of occasion, like a charity event or in this case a wedding.

Not attending Rhi’s wedding would be something akin to not attending one of her own kids weddings. She had watched Rhi grow up, that’s how long Aja had been blessed to know this family. Even when she teased Colleen that she needed a scorecard to keep track of them all, she knew although they might not be blood, she could always count on them like her own family.

She looked back to see where Padriq had gotten off to already, then went to find their seats.

Padriq was trying to be on his best behavior of course. He had arrived with Aja, dressed in his best, all be it something pirates don’t generally wear. After a bit of ogling Aja in her blue dress and smiling to himself over just how lucky he was, he meandered about to see what kind of help he could give in preparation for the wedding.

As Aja went off to see Rhi and give them their love he had found the kiddos. So, while the adults were busy with last minute fussing he was playing. As Aja found him, she’d see that he was busy beneath a pile of boys all yelling ‘Arrrghhh!!’ and billowing for his surrender. Honestly, he was going to ruin his nice black suit, white shirt, and blue tie at this rate, but he didn’t seem to mind. He always enjoyed playing with children and being very much a distraction when parents needed it.

Last minute fussing was done with Limeleneth’s hair and dress before Chelle took her seat. She choose a place on the right side of the aisle. She never really understood that whole bride’s side and groom’s side thing. Wasn’t the point of a wedding to celebrate the union of people and not to divide them? Chelle smoothed down the back of her red strapless Jacquard gown. The ruby and silver jewelry she’d chosen stood out against her fair skin. She was turned slightly in her seat so she could see who all was coming in.

Soon, the carriage that Rena arrived in pulled up to the site. Rena stepped out and looked around, smiling at what was in front of her. A nod was given to the attendant who gave her a program. The blue dress she wore was one she had refitted and was trimmed in silver, with matching silver shoes and purse. The wrap was draped over her arm as it was warm enough now to not need it. Her hair was pulled back from her face, held in place with a silver clasp. A toss-up of where to sit was eventually settled as she took a set near the aisle, since she was friends to both bride and groom. Once seated, she opened the program and smiled again.

Stepping down from the carriage that had brought them to the arboretum and gardens, Doran Ilnaren turned and raised a hand to assist his mother. Phen smiled and took it, gracefully climbing out. Thank you, son, she signed to the boy, before reaching in to lift the basket that held baby Olivia. Handing that to Doran, she turned to look at Azure, still sitting in the carriage. Concerned that her daughter’s recent trials were affecting her, she gave the girl a comforting smile as her fingers danced. Are you all right, dear?

Azure nodded back. “Uh huh! I’m just waiting for you to move out of my way, Mama.” The girl’s impish grin broke into giggles. Behind Phen, Doran managed to keep a straight face, though it was clearly a struggle.

Phen’s laughter was a soft hiss as she dutifully stepped back to allow her daughter to exit the carriage. Once Azure was on the ground, her mother crouched to look at her, straightening her dress. You look lovely. Now go join the other girls and get ready. As the girl scampered off, she rose and took the baby basket that Doran held up for her.

Once he no longer carried Olivia’s basket, Doran reached up to fix his tie, then held a hand up. “Can I walk you to your seat, Mama?” Together, mother and son strode up the aisle to the front row on the groom’s side.

Standing with eager anticipation, Eregor beamed at them, then gestured for Doran to take up his spot with the musicians once Phen and Olivia were settled.
