Once Kitty returned to Rhydin, she took a few days to recover from her battle injuries. They were nothing like what she had received from fighting the balrogs, so it really didn't take very long for her body to heal.

During this time she had Bobby start seeking through the networks for any hint of where her brother had been when he was killed.

Apparently Mar had done a bit of traveling in the centuries since the sisters had left Midkemia. While Kalentor had gone off to try and gain more knowledge and power in the hopes of someday obliterating the sisters who took away his would be glory within the tribe, Mar took another path.

Kitty sat in her office chair as she perused the reports that Bobby had prepared for her concerning her dead brother. Her lips pursed as she scrolled through page after page of his travels from one world to another. He didn't seem to be intent on doing any great evil. He wasn't trying to do any great good either. Most of what she found was just paper trails of his working as a mage for this army or that army.

The last entry listed was his work for the Duchy of Urnst. That was at least a decent starting point.

Next would be getting her hands on Mar’s soul cage again and attempting to sort through the myriad of memories until she found the moment he died. The hard part would be trying to focus on the surroundings to see where he was, rather than the events that led to his death.

It had been awhile since Kitty had gone traversing through other worlds. She did it plenty while she was a mercenary, but once she gave up that lifestyle she remained mostly in Rhydin. It took her a few hours to locate the D-Hopper she had obtained ages ago. She wasn't even sure if it still worked anymore. It took her even longer to find the small notepad where she had written the dial settings for each world she visited for work, along with which settings were locations she did NOT want to go... ever.

Once again she dressed herself and armed herself to the teeth in a manner that was appropriate for the location she was intending to visit. Her feline and dragon traits went into hiding as she painfully shifted back to her fully moredhel form. Her golden eyes changed to a grey so dark they were nearly black. Her muscles became more angular and defined. Her claws retracted into black rough nails. She pulled on leather pants, boots, and a thick leather bodice style top that strapped her chest into place. The leather not only would provide a certain amount of armor, but it also helped keep her ample chest from being too much in the way.

Knives were tucked into her boots, strapped to her upper arms, nestled away inside her belt, and one small one was tucked into her bodice. The sword concealing bracers were tied onto her wrists, while another sword was hooked onto her belt and secured there. Again her old moredhel bow along with it’s matching quiver of arrows was slung onto her back.

Marlenthal was going to owe her SO big after this was all said and done.

After Kitty was all dressed and armed up, she used the portal in her chambers to take her directly to Dark Lake Manor. It didn’t seem to matter how many times she used that thing, it always made her slightly nauseated to walk through it. She would never understand how Chryrie could use portals as her primary means of long-distance travel.

Once she was on the other side, she took a moment to settle her stomach. A few deep breaths, and then she was headed toward Chryrie’s lab. It stood to reason the goddess would have the soul cage there in preparation for when Mar’s body would be found and then the resurrection would be completed.

Kitty walked into the lab to find Chryrie closely inspecting the amethyst statuette while peering at the book she had open on the table. When Kitty walked in, kaleidoscope eyes lifted to peer at her sister, only for thin eyebrows to skyrocket.

“Going to a party without me?” The goddess drawled out with a slow forming smirk.

Kitty snorted and continued inside until she reached the table. “Something like that. Where’s Mar’s soul cage?”

“And hello to you too. I’m doing wonderful, thank you for asking.” Chryrie rolled her eyes toward the ceiling with her sardonic words. She set down the statuette as she turned away from the table. “It’s over here. Why do you ask?”

“I have an idea of where he died, but I wanted to check his final memories before I go running off on what could be a wild goose chase.” Kitty darted a quick look at the statuette, making sure to give it a wide berth as she moved to follow her sister.

“I see. Do you think you’ll be able to determine that from a moment filled with agony and despair?” Chryrie inquired thoughtfully as she reached up into one of her many bookshelves, prying the green glass pyramid from it’s hiding place. Kitty’s eyes instantly locked onto the soul cage that housed her brother.

“It’s not like this is my first brainwave rodeo.” Kitty tore her gaze from the pyramid to give her sister a scowling look.

“Of course not.” Chryrie’s mouth twitched into the start of a smirk that she quickly hid away. The pyramid was placed on the counter for Kitty, and then she returned to the statuette and the book with it.

Kitty glowered at her sister’s retreating form, then looked back to the soul cage. A heavy sigh escaped her as she reached out to pick it up. The instant her hand touched the glass, her brother’s memories began to flood through her mind.

It took a few moments, but she was able to stem the chaotic flow to something a bit more manageable. Quickly the images flickered by her consciousness like a slide show on fast forward. Each one was given a quick once over and then pushed aside once it was determined to be of no use.

Suddenly the final moments of her brother’s life were upon her. Looking through his eyes she gazed upon a field filled with clashing fighters. A fight he had no real vested interest in. He was nothing more than a blade for hire, except his blade was made of magic. A shady deal made with a demon ensured he had enough power to request top dollar. He usually got it. Their local mages were pathetic in comparison.

Spellfire was flowing from his fingertips when suddenly there was a sharp pain in the side of his head. He looked to that side. The last thing he saw as he fell to the ground and the world faded away was a high elven archer lowering his bow. His final thoughts filled with confusion. The archer was suppose to be on the same side. A traitor.

Traitor.

Kitty withdrew her hand from the pyramid as she digested what she had seen.

Apparently she had a score to settle as well.
